The Booker Prize is a literary prize awarded annually to the best novel written in the English language and published in the UK or Ireland. It is a high-profile literary prize and this is the reason why this award, given every year, is awaited among almost every book lover.

 Booker Prize History

This prize was started in 2005 as the Man Booker International Prize. It was initially a biennial award, and there was no condition that the literary work should be written in a language other than English. Early winners of the Man Booker International Prize include Alice Munro, Lydia Davis and Philip Roth, as well as Ismail Kadare and László Krasznahorkai.

This is how winners are chosen

The Foundation selects an advisory committee to select the winners for the award. This advisory committee consists of a writer, two publishers, a literary agent, a bookseller, a librarian and a chairperson. The committee then selects a judging panel which changes every year. Judges are selected for the prize from leading critics, writers and academics.

The prize money was initially £21,000, but was raised to £50,000 in 2002. At the same time, Booker's rules were changed in 1971, which means that books published in 1970 were not considered in 1970 or 71. In 2010, a special prize, the Lost Man Booker Prize, was created by the Foundation to help choose a winner from a long list of 22 novels from the 1970s.

 

Geetanjali Shree Biography

Geetanjali Shri (born 12 June 1957) is a well-known Hindi story writer and novelist. Born in Mainpuri city of Uttar Pradesh, Geetanjali's early education took place in different cities of Uttar Pradesh. He later graduated from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi and MA in History from Jawaharlal Nehru University. did. Premchand from Maharaj Sayaji Rao University, Vadodara and received a research degree on the subject of Colonial Educated Classes of North India.

After teaching at Jamia Millia Islamia University for a few days, she went to the Center for Social Studies in Surat for post-Dr. While there, he started writing stories.

Education of Gitanjali Shree

Shri spent his childhood in several cities of UP where his father was posted as a civil servant. She moved to Delhi for higher education where she studied history at Delhi University's Lady Shri Ram College, and did her Masters from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

However, Geetanjali Shree gave up history and chose Hindi for doctorate. He has a Ph.D. According to a report in Deccan Herald, in the 1980s on the famous Hindi writer Premchand of MS University, Baroda, around that time he also started teaching at Zakir Hussain College and Jamia Millia Islamia.

 1.In the 1980s, his career was started by the leading Hindi publishing house, Rajkamal, which was headed by Sheela Sandhu.

2.A novelist and short-story writer, Shree wrote his first story 'Bel Patra' in 1987. He has five novels and several short story collections.

3.She came into limelight with her first novel, My, the English translation of which was shortlisted for the Crossword Book Award in 2001. The novel was translated into English by Neeta Kumar, who earned the Sahitya Akademi Translation Award for it.

4.Gitanjali Shree's first novel “My” for women published by Kali Publisher, the novel gives readers a glimpse into the life and consciousness of three generations of women and the men around them in a North Indian middle-class family. Mai has been translated into several languages including Serbian, Urdu, French, German and Korean.

5.His second novel “Hamara Shahar Us Baras” centers around the time when Ayodhya was plagued by communal violence after the Babri Masjid demolition.

6.In 2006, he published the novel "Empty Space", which focuses on themes such as violence, loss and the search for identity in the contemporary world. Its French translation is titled 'Eun Place Vide' (2018) and its English translation is called 'The Empty Space' (2011).

7.In 2018, he wrote the Hindi-language novel 'Reet Samadhi', which talks about the devastating impact of borders between religions, countries and genders. The novel comically presents the journey of an 80-year-old Indian woman to Pakistan after the death of her husband.

8.He received international recognition for the novel "Tomb of Sand", which is the English translation of his novel 'Ret Samadhi' (2018). The novel was translated into English by Daisy Rockwell.

9.His novels and stories have been translated into several languages including Gujarati, Urdu, English, French, Siberian and Korean.
